Phoenix Band Plays at Basketball Game
Throughout the day you can hear the sounds of music coming from the junior hall wing. Mr. Dean has formed a percussion class and a performing band and they are doing great.
The band made its first public performance at a recent home game. The band did a great job after only a few hours of practice. The band will continue playing at upcoming home games this season.
When the Sugar Bowl was in town, Mr. Dean and several other teachers were the recipients of some musical instruments that were donated to area schools. Mr. Dean was able to get two complete drum kits that the students have been loving ever since.
The band will also be part of the Homecoming parade and game. The students have been very excited about learning and the hands-on experience that music is. When asked about the band playing at the basketball games Shani Narcisse, a cheerleader, said, “it was great to have them be part of the game.” Mr. Dean will also be working with the cheerleaders to coordinate some music they can cheer to. The school is hoping that the band will encourage more fans to come out and see the teams play.
